University of South Florida placekicker Maikon Bonani was severely injured when he fell 35 feet from a gondola at Busch Gardens today.

According to the Tampa Tribune, Bonani suffered a broken vertebra in his back, but the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Bonani was injured while performing a safety check while working as an attendant on the sky ride at the theme park. Believing the car door to a gondola was not properly fastened, Bonani attempted to grab on to the door before it departed.
