2009 saw almost every player on the Hawkeye offense go down to injury, yet the team kept chugging on—four wins, six wins, eight wins, nine wins. Younger players stepped up, veterans played bigger roles, the coaches made the necessary adjustments. Somehow, Iowa managed to win games. However, I think every Hawkeye fan knew the truth; if quarterback Ricky Stanzi were to go down, the team would not be able to overcome. On Nov. 7, it finally happened: Stanzi twisted his knee, his regular season ended, and Iowa's perfect season was over. Hopefully, 2010 will not be quite as wrought with injuries.
