Does a College Football Preseason Make Sense?

I have been in favor of one preseason game for college football for many years.  

Every game is important, and back in the day, when Michigan opened its season against Notre Dame—yes, Notre Dame—it always seemed like the right thing to do.

Could you imagine a freshman QB starting his year against ND? I can't.

That's why I always thought Michigan should invite one of the state schools (like Eastern, Western, or Central, who were not on the regular schedule) to Michigan Stadium to play a preseason game.

It could be a Div. I-A team or even a Div. II team. You could charge $5 or $10 a ticket, and I bet the fans would flock to the stadium in mid to late August to get a peek at the new Wolver...
