UTEP’s Season Counting on Lots of Derrick Caracter

The University of Texas-El Paso Miners have played just six games this season, but there's a reason why.

Coach Tony Barbee is depending on one player to let his team challenge UAB and Memphis for the Conference USA crown. Junior Derrick Caracter, a transfer from Louisville, became academically eligible for Sunday's game against New Mexico State.

His presence hardly paid dividends.

Caracter scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting in 12 minutes of play, and the same on-the-court problems plagued him as they did in his days at Louisville. The transfer had more fouls (three) than rebounds (two) and sat much the first half in foul trouble.
