Paul Debnam to Continue Contributions to the Hokies Next Season

While Virginia Tech’s senior walk-on Paul Debnam’s eligibility may have run out, we haven’t seen the last of his contributions to the men’s basketball team.

According to a source inside the team, Debnam will still be helping the team as a manager and assistant to the players.  There is also a good chance that Debnam will remain on the practice squad in order to help the younger players develop (plus, still playing ball doesn’t hurt either).

I, for one, am very happy that Debnam will be sticking around while finishing his degree.  If you haven’t had the chance to meet Paul Debnam in person, you’re missing out on talking to one of the nicest, most genuine people in the world.

Debnam has that innate ability to always smile, even when things are at their lowest.

For example, you probably didn’t see this on TV, but after the Hokies most recent loss in the NIT to Wichita State, while the rest of the team walked solemnly to the locker room, Debnam ran over and high-fived the front row of the Cassell Guard with a traditional Paul Debnam smile on his face.

He is a genuinely happy person and a great role model to have on the team for the new players coming in.  Debnam may not have had all the skills to be a great player, but he still has the perfect personality to contribute to the team even after his eligibility has come and gone.

Maybe I can teach Paul how to Dougie properly this year.
