Does Richmond Have Any Chance Against Kansas?

Friday night’s other early game is set to tip off at 7:27pm and you can watch it on TBS. The game will be played in the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.

The Spiders have made a nice run in the tournament upsetting Vandebilt in the final seconds in the dreaded 12 vs. 5 matchup. They were then blessed with a Morehead State upset over Louisville, which allowed them to reach the Sweet 16 for the second time in school history. The first was back in 1988 when they lost to Temple. If they had to play Louisville I’m not sure they would have had such an easy game like they did against Morehead State.

Kansas is the only remaining high seed in the Southwest division. Not many people had three double digit seeds from one region in the Sweet 16.

Richmond’s only hope of winning this game is for Justin Harper and Kevin Anderson have a fantastic game. They will also need a little luck and have the Jayhawks miss on a lot of shots. Harper and Anderson are the leading scorers for the Spiders, and they are the main reasons Richmond has made it this far. Without their stellar play down the stretch Richmond would not even be in the tournament.

Don’t think Kansas is sleeping on this game. They did that last year and it cost them a title. Head coach Bill Self will be bringing out the tape of Ali Farokhmanesh and Northern Iowa upsetting them a year ago. The Jayhawks don’t want that to happen again, and they will be ready for the Spiders.

Shutting down Harper and Anderson is priority No. 1 for Kansas. The next step is to feed it down low to the Morris twins and let them go to work. Marcus and Markieff Morris are excellent athletes and they want that championship. Kansas won it in 2008 and I’m sure that was a huge reason the twins signed with the Jayhawks.

Pick: Kansas doesn’t slip and they end Richmond’s Cinderella run with a 76-67 victory
