As a child, the worst time of the year has to be the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The waiting and anticipation to open gifts as a child has dwarfed any wait in a supermarket or DMV line as an adult by a mile.

There was that one parent or relative that would allow the opening of one present, a few days before the big day. Most of the time the gift was just enough to get by until Christmas morning. 

But every once in a while you would get to open a gift early, even though it typically turned out to be something like socks or one piece to a bigger present that couldn't be opened until that fateful morning.
