Q&A with Jarmal Reid: Marquette Basketball Recruit

Posted by Zach Herring on April 13 2011 Add Comments
Jarmal Reid, 6'7", 230 lbs, is a small forward who currently attends Columbia High School in Decatur, Georgia. Reid has great upside and is known for his ability to score. Reid has good three point range and would fit in with Buzz Williams offensive style very well. Reid is ranked 73th on ESPNU 100 Class of 2012. I had the pleasure of interviewing Jarmal recently. ZH: What are you going to work on this summer to improve your ...

While Virginia Tech's senior walk-on Paul Debnam's eligibility may have run out, we haven't seen the last of his contributions to the men's basketball team.  According to a source inside the team, Debnam will still be helping the team as a manager and assistant to the players.  There is also a good chance that Debnam will remain on the practice squad in order to help the younger players develop (plus, still playing ball ...

After the Arizona Wildcats won the first game of the series thanks to a walk off single by All American catcher Jett Bandy, a rainy Saturday pushed Game 2 to Sunday to set up the first doubleheader of the 2011 season in Jerry Kindall Field, at Frank Sancet Stadium. In a doubleheader, it is vital to have your starter go for the majority of the game in order to preserve the bullpen and give the team ...

In September, the University of California-Berkeley announced that, due to financial constraints, it was cutting five sports from its athletic department, including varsity baseball. Over the following six months, the baseball program continued amongst uncertainty if fund-raising efforts would meet a lofty goal to save the program and bring it back for a 2012 season. The Golden Bears baseball team reported Friday afternoon for what was supposed to be a routine scouting meeting to discuss its opponent, ...

2010-2011 Maryland Terrapins Basketball: Final Grades

Posted by Tom Natali on April 10 2011 Add Comments
Trust me; there is nothing more frustrating than watching the Maryland Terrapins not earn an NCAA tournament bid. I remember years ago the question was “I wonder what seed we’re going to get in the tournament.” Now, it’s “I hope we’re good enough to make it in this year”.  It’s sad to see a program that once seemed on the verge of a powerhouse, has reduced themselves to just a solid program while coach Gary Williams ...

Nike Hoop Summit Recap: Kentucky Recruits Shine and Bismack Biyombo Breaks Out

Posted by Bjorn Zetterberg on April 10 2011 Add Comments
History was made in the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit for both teams tonight in what was a fairly one-sided affair between Team USA and the International All-Stars. The quickness and athleticism of the prep seniors proved too much for the world roster as the high school all-stars won the game, 92-80.  Even though the game wasn’t as close as the score indicates, the real story was the individual performances. There’s a very real possibility that ...

Theus vs. Rice UNLV Rebel Coaching Hire: Lies and Unverified Facts for Ratings

Posted by Michael Campanella on April 9 2011 Add Comments
As the search and interviews continue for the UNLV Rebel Men's Basketball Head Coach, some in Las Vegas are using their powers of radio personality and Internet article writers on this site to propound false and unverified statements to increase ratings and "views." There are four candidates involved in the interview process: Reggie Theus, Dave Rice, Mike Dunlap and Ernie Kent.  All four were interviewed in great length but the two-horse race is mainly between Theus ...

College Basketball 2011-12: 10 Teams That Will Rise from Where They Finished

Posted by Doug Brodess on April 9 2011 Add Comments
One season of college basketball ends. Congrats to Jim Calhoun and the UConn Huskies for winning their third NCAA Championship. Now we can start to speculate about how teams will perform through the 2011-12 regular season, conference tournaments, and the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio State Texas—and even defending national champ UConn—may all be right there again. But don't you think there will also be unanticipated dark horses that could make some serious noise? At this time last year, who ...

The UConn Huskies Should Pray for a Lockout If They Want Kemba Walker to Stay

Posted by Chris Brunau on April 8 2011 Add Comments
Rarely would anyone hope for a lockout to actually happen. It hurts the players, it hurts the league, it hurts the fans. However, there is one situation where I hope for a lockout, and that is when it comes to Kemba Walker. Kemba led the UConn Huskies to one of the most improbable runs in NCAA basketball history this past season. After finishing a so-so season at the back of the Big East, Kemba lead the huskies like it ...
