Notre Dame: 10 Predictions of the 2009 Season

Posted by Jim Miesle on August 31 2009 Add Comments
With the season right around the corner, I figured I would compile a list of 10 things I think will happen this year. Sure, they may be a bit optimistic, but that is what the preseason is for. The offense will put up 50+ in a game this year. A little known and somewhat surprising fact is that ND has yet to hang a 5-0 on the board in the Weis era. This probably stems from ...

Perfect TIMing?—Part III: 15 Questions Facing The 2009 Florida Gators

Posted by Scotty Franchise on August 31 2009 Add Comments
Can you believe that games kickoff THIS WEEK?!?! Including our first big bowl game of the year with Virginia Tech vs. Alabama. Seriously, we may not get a matchup that good in the Orange Bowl this year.  I don’t think any season will be as strange or captivating as the 2007 season where we had our first two-loss BCS champion raise the crystal ball above their heads. As promised (kind of), here are the last five ...

Michigan Wolverines Football: Carson Butler Says No Violations

Posted by The Wolverine on August 31 2009 Add Comments
Wolverine fans know that Carson had his ups and downs last year under Coach Rodriguez's program. Now a rookie with the Detroit Lions, Butler has come out and said that there were no violations. For a man who could have had an agenda against Rodriguez (like some of the other unnamed sources), it is refreshing to see someone speak the truth. "It was just a different structure," Butler told ESPN. Butler said it didn't seem ...

Florida Gators Player Profile: Nimrod Tishman

Posted by Josh Sawyers on August 31 2009 Add Comments
If you are like me, you never heard of Nimrod Tishman until late July. Nimrod really broke out in the international hoops scene in the 2009 U18 European Championship. He averaged 18.3 points per game to go with 4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in six games. Nimrod is a 6' 5" point guard that looks a lot like Nick Calathes on tape. Florida  just has one true point guard, Erving Walker, on scholarship, and incoming freshman ...

Looking at Week 1 of the ACC

Posted by Jeffrey Fann on August 31 2009 Add Comments
ACC Game of the WeekVirginia Tech (neutral) Alabama Is this the ACC game of the week? This is one of the top games of the year in the nation. Without Darren Evans the Hokies will have to rely on QB Tyrod Taylor. They have a deep backfield still with Ryan Williams, Josh Oglesby and David Wilson, but they are young. Alabama has one of the most physical fronts in the nation. Terrance Cody is a beast at ...

Marshall Football: Down But Never Out

Posted by James Roach on August 31 2009 Add Comments
By now nearly everyone in America knows of the tragedy that claimed the lives of the 1970 Marshall Thundering Herd Football team, coaches and boosters. The story as told by the film “We Are Marshall” has been sent around the globe on television, DVD, and the Internet. So I don't need to tell that story, nor do I wish to pick at the emotional scar-tissue everyone inherits upon joining the Marshall family. Instead, I am going ...

Quick Hitters and Don’t Miss This: Huskers Have a Big Back

Posted by Andy Purvis on August 31 2009 Add Comments
In the aftermath of the dismissal of former Nebraska running back Quentin Castille, fans and pundits are both left to wonder, "Who will take Castille's place in short yardage and possible goal line situations?" Castille was the hammer and the perfect complement to the slash and dash style of Nebraska running back Roy Helu Jr. Just ask the Clemson defense. Castille had the size to pound defenses but also possess a burst of speed uncommon for a man ...

Desi Cullen’s Performance Will Be Key For Special Teams

Posted by Daniel Dinunzio on August 31 2009 Add Comments
Desi Cullen is a senior captain of the 2009 UConn football team.  He always holds the duties of punting and kicking off the ball when needed.  Last year the Huskies had some serious protection issues when it came to 4th down and punting situations.  Cullen 6'2", 200 lbs took a lot of heat last season, and he's determined to have a successful year as a captain of this team. Last year the weakness in the punting game cost the ...

David Cutcliffe Has Duke Fans Believing Again

Posted by Mike Kline on August 31 2009 Add Comments
It has been 15 years since Duke Football had a winning season and even longer since they were considered more than a one-hit-wonder. Second-year coach David Cutcliffe has Duke Football fans, and even some members of the media, singing an old-yet-unfamiliar tune—success. While Duke Fans are hoping for the best, media members like Rob Daniels of the ACC Sports Journal are predicting some positive things from this year's Duke Team. Daniel didn't even pick Duke to finish last, ...
