As College Football Season Cometh, So Doth Creature vs. Creature

Posted by Justin Goar on August 28 2009 Add Comments
Everyone in the college football community is hyped to get the 2009 season underway, myself included. One of the many great things about this site is the relationships developed by writers with one another from different areas, styles, backgrounds, and team affiliations. Those interactions gave birth to the collaborative writing effort on this site called "Creature vs. Creature." Quite simply, it's two writers, representing two different teams that are facing one another, collaborating on a game preview. They ...

[Author's Note: I am happy to welcome Joe O to the writing crew here at MSF. Joe is a native of Greenwood, Indiana and a devoted Hoosier fan and grad just like me.  Not surprisingly, his first effort here at MSF deals with man that all of us from southern Indiana grew up worshipping admiring: Bob Knight. Enjoy, and welcome aboard Joe!] ——————– Bob Knight. The General. Three national championships. Eleven Big Ten Championships. Olympic Gold Medal. Four-time National ...

Michigan State Recruits Attempt to Fill Vacated Center Spot Left by Suton

As the proverbial saying goes; “All good things must come to an end.”   And for the Michigan State Men’s Basketball Team, those words echo all too clearly.   One year removed from an improbable title-run, Michigan State will be without star-center and rebounding-crutch Goran Suton, (pictured) due to graduation. Evaporated with his departure are 10 PPG, 8 REB, and an ability to drain the occasional three-point shot.   But while the offensive and defensive prowess will be missed, Head Coach ...

Rick Pitino Needs a Period of Reflection

Posted by Bill Wright on August 28 2009 Add Comments
I just heard Rick Pitino say that he's "had enough" of the media coverage of his adventures. While I'm a forgiving guy (Michael Vick should play, and Plaxico Burress' sentence is excessive), I have very little sympathy for Coach Pitino.   I can't understand how he's still considered fit to lead young men.   I am not saying that there are perfect people out there. I have my problems, and I'm sure Coach K and Roy Williams have theirs. ...

South Carolina Gamecocks’ Steve Spurrier Not on Hot Seat in 2009

Original Published on SEC Sports Report Could the Ol' Ball Coach be on the hot seat in 2009? When Steve Spurrier returned to the SEC, he talked about winning an SEC Championship. High expectations, tougher conference and mediocre performances have the Spurriers re-shuffling the deck in 2009. The Gamecocks finished the 2007 and 2008 seasons on crutches. No bowl game in 2007 and a miserable performance at the Outback Bowl in 2008. Spurrier's recent offenses look like they have lost their ...

Why Joe Cox Is Not Another D.J. Shockley

Posted by Tyler Estep on August 28 2009 Add Comments
Joe Cox is not Matthew Stafford. He's not going to be Tee Martin, winning a national championship the year after Peyton Manning left Tennessee. And, by God, he's not D.J. Shockley. Cox, the fifth-year Bulldog quarterback who sat and watched as Stafford became a Georgia legend, is now at the helm and behind center in Athens. And while the comparison of Cox to Shockley, who sat for three years behind legend ...

Jared Van Slyke Earns His Keep with Michigan Wolverines

Posted by The Wolverine on August 28 2009 Add Comments
Few fans may have heard of walk-on Jared Van Slyke, son of MLB player Andy Van Slyke. He went to Southeast Missouri State and barely played. So he transferred to Michigan—as a walk-on. Benefiting from a depleted secondary, Van Slyke has worked hard and is now likely to see some meaningful playing time at the safety position this fall. "I've just earned it by playing hard, working hard all summer long," he ...

Indiana State Sycamores Feeling Ill After Losing 27 Straight Football Games

Indiana State opened the FSC season with a 26-20 lose to NAIA member Quincy in OT.Indiana State shot out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter behind a Braulio Martinez 40 yard field goal and Ryan Roberts' five-yard pass from Chris Stutzriem (Braulio Martinez Kick) and a Bryant Kent 75-yard pass from Darrius Gates (Braulio Martinez Kick).Quincy would spend the next two quarters adding field goals, so, winning 17-6 heading into the fourth quarter, ...

Ken Wilkins an “Unbelievable Physical Talent”

Posted by The Wolverine on August 28 2009 Add Comments
Michigan commit Ken Wilkins has been described as nothing less than a beast, standing at 6'3", 231 lbs. Pre-Barwis, Wilkins benches 365 and runs a 40-yard dash in 4.61 seconds. "He's an unbelievable physical talent," Trinity Coach Ed Dalton said. "He's very muscular, and he has a 28-inch waist. He looks like an NFL player today. He's not going to take a year in college to get that physical look. He already has it. ...
