The SEC and Big 12 announced that the two conferences will create a new bowl game following the 2014 season that will match the conference champion of each conference, should they not be included in the four-team playoff.

Not once during the BCS era (1998-present) has the final BCS standings been without either the SEC champion or the Big 12 champion, so the prospect of getting a champion vs. champion matchup in this bowl game is slim-to-none.
