Perhaps things would have been different had I made that turn. Not necessarily better, but certainly different.

Driving south from Detroit to Florida, I remember seeing "Iowa" on an interstate highway.

Why I remember that, I'll never know. We might as well have been on our way to the Yukon for all I knew. That's how far away from home it seemed.

But instead of heading west on that highway, instead of making that turn, we headed south toward the Sunshine State.
