Hopefully the NCAA Won’t Treat USC Trojans Too Harshly

Should USC football be punished at all? Of course. Some USC fans contend that the NCAA does not have 100 percent rock solid certain evidence that Reggie Bush received a significant amount of money and benefits over a lengthy period of time.

The truth is that the NCAA does not need to cross such a threshold. After all, not even legal proceedings do. In a criminal trial, the threshold isn't guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt, but rather guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

In a civil trial, the threshold isn't even guilt beyond a reasonable doubt but guilt based on the preponderance of the evidence (which means the side that has 51 percent wins). Consider it this way: were USC to believe that the NCAA unfairly treated them by punis...
