Stephone Anthony: What He Means For Clemson Football

Staphone Anthony, a five-star linebacker from North Carolina, has added to Clemson’s haul on national signing day, choosing the Tigers over North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Anthony was one of the top outside linebackers in the country this season and is yet another surprise top recruit heading to Clemson.

Many pegged Anthony to be headed to Clemson, but the race was still up in the air heading into signing day. In the end, though, head coach Dabo Swinney added to what is quickly becoming a stellar haul.

Anthony brings unmatched athleticism at outside linebacker, and he has the instincts to be a star. He’s got great speed and he’s capable of pursuing even the fleetest running backs out of the backfield.

His tackling technique could use work, but he’s got the raw ability to be a serious star.

For Clemson, combining Anthony with top-ranked inside linebacker Tony Steward is a serious coup. The Tigers have the best linebacking prospects in this year’s class, meaning their defense can’t help but improve.
