The Gator Flop: Florida Football’s Infamous 1971 Play

When Tim sends me something to consider, there aren't any follow-up questions.

He won't say it, so I will: he's got a strong sense of college football history, especially as it pertains to our shared undergraduate experiences at the University of Florida.

He's also a long-time friend.

Just yesterday, he sent me a video clip of one of college football's most infamous plays.

And wouldn't you just know it, the Gators were involved.

Holding an insurmountable lead in the final minutes of their 1971 game against the University of Miami Hurricanes, Florida's defense completely bailed out and allowed the Hurricanes to score a touchdown.

Why did they do that?
