Tennessee’s Uninspired Effort Leaves Questions About Program’s Direction

Posted by Brad Shepard on October 29 2016 Add Comments
Tennessee's 24-21 loss to a struggling South Carolina Gamecocks team that featured a quarterback who should be in high school revealed a cold truth about the Volunteers: They really aren't that good. To put it bluntly, it made you question head coach Butch Jones' regime and the program's direction. A setback that may have seemed shocking to the college football nation shouldn't have been all that surprising—not after the way the Vols' once-promising season has unfurled. After all, ...

While Nebraska and Wisconsin were engaged in a fun football game Saturday night, a pair of fans at Camp Randall Stadium showed up in costumes that appeared to depict Donald Trump lynching President Barack Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. A different fan at the game captured an image of the costumes and posted it on Twitter: The University of Wisconsin issued a statement about the situation, per Alysha Tsuji of USA Today: During the first half ...

Winners and Losers from Week 9 of College Football

Posted by Kerry Miller on October 29 2016 Add Comments
Just days before the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season will be published, Week 9 was utter chaos. With ranked and undefeated teams falling left and right, Alabama turned out to be one of the biggest winners of the week just by sitting at home on a bye. Michigan, Clemson, Washington, Louisville and Ohio State didn't win in particularly convincing fashion, but it was a "survive-and-advance" type of Saturday like no other. On the individual front, ...

Georgia vs. Florida: Game Grades, Analysis for Bulldogs

Posted by Evan Greenberg on October 29 2016 Add Comments
After an embarrassing 17-16 loss at home against Vanderbilt two weeks ago, there was no way it could have gotten worse for Georgia. And yet, somehow, it did. The Bulldogs have now lost four of five, the latest coming in a 24-10 loss to Florida in Jacksonville Saturday. After a bye week, you’d think the team would come out inspired; it would finally be able to put more than two phases of the game together and show ...

Chris Lammons Ejected for Throwing Punches vs. Tennessee

South Carolina cornerback Chris Lammons was ejected during the first quarter of Saturday's game against Tennessee after he threw punches at Vols wide receiver Jauan Jennings.   Lammons and Jennings were tangled up in the end zone when Lammons threw two punches that connected with Jennings' stomach and helmet.  In addition to being ejected from the game, Lammons was flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that moved the Volunteers down to South Carolina's 14-yard line.  Tennessee would eventually turn ...

Despite allowing 398 rushing yards, the Texas Longhorns handed the No. 8 Baylor Bears their first loss Saturday, 35-34, at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Longhorns moved to 4-4 and may have earned a reprieve for head coach Charlie Strong, who entered the game on the hot seat. Texas received a huge performance from junior running back D'Onta Foreman, who rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. His brother, junior wide receiver Armanti ...

Miami vs. Notre Dame: Game Grades, Analysis for Irish

It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win—especially right now.  The Notre Dame Fighting Irish improve to 3-5 on the season and keep their hopes for a bowl berth alive with a win over the Miami Hurricanes, 30-27. It was clearly a tale of two halves, and Notre Dame's biggest enemy on the night seemed to be Notre Dame.  Self-inflicted wounds kept the Hurricanes in the ball game, and the Notre Dame defense looked dismal ...

Is Florida a Legit Threat to Reach SEC Title Game and Steal a Playoff Berth?

The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party between Florida and Georgia in Jacksonville served as a celebration for the Gators and a reminder to the college football world that they are relevant. Behind a stifling defense that limited first-year head coach Kirby Smart's crew to just 164 yards, eight first downs and 3.04 yards per play, the defending SEC East champs got just enough from quarterback Luke Del Rio in his second start since suffering an MCL ...

There would be no last-play disaster for Michigan (8-0) this year against in-state rival Michigan State (2-6). This year, the undefeated Wolverines handed the Spartans a 32-23 defeat on their home turf in East Lansing, Michigan. The second-ranked Wolverines used their strong passing attack to take charge of the game in the first half and maintain a secure hold on it, something they were unable to do a year ago. The Spartans scored the game-winning touchdown in 2015 ...
