Snakebitten BYU QB Taysom Hill: ‘I’m Going to Leave Everything out There’

PROVO, Utah — Watching Taysom Hill on one of the first days of BYU's fall practice, you'd think he was a sure-shot NFL quarterback prospect. His arm looks lively, and his 6'2", 230-pound, linebacker-like frame shows no signs of limitations or wear as it glides across the field. You'd never guess the reality. This is not your typical student-athlete. This is a 26-year-old married man coming off his third season-ending injury in four years. Hill's season ended in ...

NBA Counterparts for College Basketball’s Top Shooting Guards

Posted by Brian Pedersen on August 31 2016 Add Comments
As much as the NCAA and its coaches might try to convince you otherwise, college basketball is essentially a free minor league for the NBA. Since players are no longer allowed to go straight from high school to the pros, that means spending at least one year in college—unless they want to go overseas. As such, the college game provides plenty of evaluation opportunities for pro scouts. And during that process, comparisons to current and former pros ...

Ranking Best Big Ten Football Matchups of Week 1

Posted by David Regimbal on August 30 2016 Add Comments
The Big Ten has made an active push to improve its non-league schedule and will participate in some of the most exciting nonconference matchups of the 2016 season. Most of those exciting showdowns, however, are not slated for Week 1. The Big Ten's opening week features one titanic showdown involving Wisconsin and an SEC heavyweight, but for the most part, the league has tune-up games in preparation for bigger tests in the coming weeks. That doesn't mean there ...

The Baylor Bears football team will be without wide receiver Ishmael Zamora to start the season. Max Olson of ESPN.com reported Tuesday that Zamora was suspended for three games because of a video that showed him physically abusing his dog. On Aug. 19, Olson noted, "The video was obtained by KXXV News Channel 25 in Waco, Texas, and captures Zamora hitting a dog eight times with a belt and kicking it while yelling." Jake Trotter of ESPN ...

Notre Dame and Texas will demand the spotlight on Sunday, Sept. 4, playing the only college football game of the day. The 10th-ranked Fighting Irish are looking to build on a 10-3 campaign. Last year, head coach Brian Kelly's team absolutely stomped the Longhorns in the season opener, winning 38-3. Meanwhile, Texas needs to start showing marked improvement. Charlie Strong is entering his third year as head coach, and his proverbial seat will slowly begin warming with every ...

College Football Week 1 Predictions: Picking Top 25 Games Against the Spread

Posted by David Kenyon on August 30 2016 Add Comments
College football is back, which means Bleacher Report will again be picking all games including Top 25 teams against the spread. Why so specific instead of simply choosing winners? In some cases, the favorite isn't just a field goal or touchdown ahead. Take 25th-ranked Florida, for example; the Gators' Week 1 opponent, UMass, is a 36-point underdog. Florida is a near-lock to win, but it's tougher to project whether the margin will be higher or lower. While we'll ...

Clemson covered eight of 14 spreads on its way to the national championship game last year, but it went only 2-3 against the spread on the road. Auburn, meanwhile, while picking pockets at 3-10 ATS last year, went 0-7 ATS at home. Who might cover when these two Tigers tangle Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium? Point spread: Clemson opened as a 7.5-point favorite, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark (line updates and matchup report). College football pick, ...

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Houston Cougars Betting Odds, College Football Pick

The Houston Cougars exploded onto the national scene last year, winning 13 games and upsetting Florida State in a New Year's Eve bowl.  Playing some good ball below the national radar for the last several seasons, the Cougars have piled up a 14-1-1 run against the spread as underdogs. But the word is out on Houston, which opens the 2016 season against Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon at NRG Stadium.      Point spread: Sooners opened as 10-point favorites, ...
