Additionally, former safeties coach Bob Elliot will take on the outside linebackers while cornerbacks coach Kerry Crooks will lead the entire secondary. Terlep tweeted the report: VanGorder is replacing departed coordinator Bob Diaco, who left Notre Dame after four seasons to accept the head coaching position at Connecticut.  His most ...

Jameis Winston knows how to make an entrance. Before the Florida State baseball team's opening game of the season, the Seminoles' Winston, Justin Gonzalez and DJ Stewart decided to videobomb the ESPN3 broadcast: Gonzalez and Stewart kept it simple, but the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner went all out with the robot. Winston could have struck the Heisman pose, but that would have been too easy. Give him credit for being creative and going old school. [Florida State Seminoles]Read ...

Clemson Football: Why Tigers Defensive Line Could Be Even Better in 2014

Posted by Greg Wallace on February 28 2014 Add Comments
CLEMSON, S.C. – Three years ago, Dabo Swinney asked for patience. Despite the presence of future NFL talents like defensive tackle Brandon Thompson and defensive end Andre Branch, Clemson’s defensive line was a liability. The Tigers’ front seven struggled with depth issues, tired late in games and didn’t pressure quarterbacks well, contributing to defensive struggles that eventually led to defensive coordinator Kevin Steele’s departure following a 70-33 Orange Bowl embarrassment against West Virginia. Several times that fall, Swinney ...

Posted by Alex Koma on February 28 2014 Add Comments
For most of the lead-up to the 2014 season, most analysts prognosticated that Virginia Tech’s coaching staff would either stick with veteran Mark Leal or try out an incoming freshman at quarterback, but some recent developments have opened up some new possibilities for the Hokies. As a fifth-year senior, Leal has long seemed like the front-runner for the job heading into spring practice. But if he fails to impress this spring, any discussion of the Hokies’ other ...

Is College Football Set to Experience a Severe Quarterback Drought in 2014?

Posted by Adam Kramer on February 28 2014 Add Comments
Talent departs, and new talent steps in to fill in the void. This tried and tested formula has long been college football’s cure for absorbing lost star power. It functions because there are future stars (eager to don the mantle, especially when it comes to replenishing the most important position in the sport). Yet, as the 2014 offseason stretches out its legs and reaches for the remote, one can’t help but take note of the departures ...

Georgia Football: Why Ramik Wilson Will Win SEC Defensive Player of the Year

Posted by Brian Jones on February 28 2014 Add Comments
The defense for the Georgia Bulldogs is expected to be better with new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, who has won national titles at Alabama and Florida State. How much better remains to be seen, but Pruitt will inherit a group that has the talent to be great. Losing Josh Harvey-Clemons is a significant blow, but the Bulldogs will return 10 starters on defense from last year, including probably the best player of the group, linebacker Ramik Wilson. After being ...

Wichita State vs. Bradley: Score, Grades and Analysis

Perfection is still intact.  Wichita State's historic season continued on Tuesday night, as the Shockers improved to 30-0 with a comprehensive 69-49 victory over Bradley at Carver Arena.  Greg Marshall's squad became the 11th school in college basketball history to win its first 30 games of the season. The 1990-91 UNLV squad was the last to accomplish the feat, while no one else has ever done it during the regular season as the Shockers now have.  But their business isn't ...

Michigan Basketball: Which Remaining Game Is Most Worrisome for Wolverines?

Posted by Zach Dirlam on February 25 2014 Add Comments
Although there are four games remaining on the Michigan basketball schedule, it would be shocking if head coach John Beilein's club failed to capture its first outright Big Ten Conference title since 1986. The pressure of being the clear-cut front-runner is not easy to deal with, but the Wolverines are certainly in an enviable position with their toughest matchups behind them. A decisive victory over Michigan State last Saturday gave the Maize and Blue a one-game ...
