Mountain West Conference’s Survival: Sell Boise State

Posted by Brian Spaen on November 30 2010 Add Comments
TCU and the Big East have announced a partnership beginning in 2012. That college expansion story creates a three-team Mountain West swing. Potentially grabbing leftovers from the Big 12, the Mountain West replaces BYU, TCU and Utah with Boise State, Nevada and Fresno State. Not a horrible trade, but something akin to one-for-one trade of Kobe Bryant for Joe Johnson. There’s only one team in this six-pack that is well known: BYU.  They’re going independent in football, ...

With the recent move to the Big East, TCU will now join their fourth new conference since the Southwest Conference dissolved in 1996. That's a new conference nearly every four years on average. The United States hasn't even had as many Presidents as TCU has had conferences in that time span. TCU has been dominant in each of the three previous conferences it has joined since 1996, winning at least one championship a piece in all ...

The Ducks, having one of their best seasons ever, are 11-0 and ranked No. 2 in the BCS standings. All they have to do is win over unranked Oregon State and their bid to the BCS Championship will assuredly be punched. For the ...

Personnel First let’s start with the Illini personnel. March To March’s jc25 has a great breakdown of Bruce Weber’s squad here. Take some time to familiarize yourself with this group and then come on back. As you can see this is an experienced squad. They return all five starters from last season, but more importantly, they have a core group of players that compliment one another’s skill sets impressively. McCamey is the ...

College Football Rankings: Who Deserves Better Bowls Than They’ll Get?

Posted by Adam Lazarus on November 30 2010 Add Comments
2010 Bowl projections are guaranteed to stir up anger in college football fans. Almost as much anger as there will be when the actual bowl selections are named. There are 35 bowl games this year which means 70 teams get bowl spots: that's better than half of the teams in the FBS.So for most of those schools, especially the 6-5 or 6-6 teams, it's hard to be unhappy about receiving any bowl invite. But there are a ...

BCS Rankings: 10 Reasons Why Stanford Is Better Than Auburn

Posted by Trae Thompson on November 30 2010 Add Comments
For just a minute, consider the thought. Is Auburn (12-0) truly heads above the rest of the country? Sure, the Tigers have run through the season undefeated (in arguably the nation's toughest conference), have a quarterback that's a clear favorite for the Heisman Trophy and have put up incredible statistics. Obviously Oregon (11-0) could make a case that it is just as good, but let's jump down a couple spots below and look at Stanford (11-1). Amazing ...

NCAA Baseball Preview 2011: Who’s the Best and Who’s Going To Win It All?

Posted by Zachary Ball on November 30 2010 Add Comments
College baseball bid adieu to Rosenblatt Stadium in a dramatic fashion. Whit Merrifield's RBI single in the bottom of the 11th-inning sent South Carolina to their first collegiate title in baseball since 1950, coincidentally the first CWS to ever be played at Omaha's baseball haven. But just like that, the page has turned on the 2010 NCAA season. The Gamecocks are no longer champions, but rather just another hungry team looking to take home some precious ...
