2011 NFL Draft Looming for Garcia, Aguste, Wilson of South Carolina

Posted by Alex Roberts on April 28 2010 Add Comments
Every year, grown men and women across the country swear, curse, throw their hands up in disgust, and cry for hours at the news that inevitably comes from every college campus with a major sports program. "This just in... Junior 'Star Player' has decided to declare early for the NFL draft".  Hearts break, puppies die, pacemakers explode, and fans take to the street with torches wearing little more than underpants and their emotions on their sleeve. Every school ...

Can Kansas Jayhawk DT Jamal Greene Play His Way into 2011 NFL Draft?

When I look through the CBS Sportsline list of 2011 defensive tackle prospects (seniors only) and don't see Jamal Greene's name listed at all, I get a little disappointed. I'm not disappointed in CBS Sportsline as much as in Jamal Greene. (Thanks for your lovely partnership with Bleacher Report, CBS.) To give you an idea of how otherwise-inclusive this list normally is, the 103 total senior prospects shown include Rene Perry , Austin Alburtis , and ...

Irish Blogger Gathering: Post-Spring Game Thoughts

1) Given the stat lines of Brian Kelly’s first Blue & Gold Sprint Spring Game, it seems obvious to me the media will be shark-feeding from now until the first game of the 2010 season over our new-found “quarterback controversy.”  I mean, didjya see MONTANA SON of MONTANA throw those TD PASSES!? HE LOOKED JUST LIKE MONTANA!  So let’s all do the responsible thing as “Notre Dame Blogs: Protectors of the Realm” and ...

WVU and the Big East: Conference Expansion, When the Music Stops

Posted by RG Yoho on April 28 2010 Add Comments
Like any other West Virginia football fan, I am greatly concerned what the expansion of other football conferences might mean to the Big East Conference in general, and the Mountaineers in particular.   The last raid of the Big East was nearly devastating to the conference, with Miami and Virginia Tech going to the ACC. To a lesser extent, the eventual departure of Boston College only added fuel to the fire.   You remember those days. An endless number ...

Syracuse Orange Hoops: An Early Look at 2010-11

Rebuild? Reload? It’s all in the eye of the beholder. Replacing the heart and soul of a Syracuse team that was the consensus No. 1 team in America before Arinze Onuaku’s injury will be no small task. The good news for ‘Cuse fans is that the material coach Boeheim has to work with is probably more versatile and potentially better than the talent that is departing. Arinze Onuaku, Wes Johnson, and Andy Rautins ...

Crystal Ballin’: The 2011 Final Four Favorites

Waiting for the recruiting and NBA declaration dust to settle shouldn’t stop us from wildly speculating the four teams that will be left standing after the madness in March. But remember, early entries and last second recruiting coups can change the national championship landscape as unexpectedly as a three-second call in a pickup game. Which reminds me to make this public service announcement after a bizarre hoops moment that occurred at my gym ...

Duke Blue Devils Basketball: What Kyle Singler’s Return Means

Posted by Kevin Berger on April 28 2010 Add Comments
Kyle Singler’s decision to return to Durham gives the talented wing another full year to grow out his eyebrows before playing professionally in the Association. Nothing says all “grown” up like a modicum of facial hair above the eye sockets. As for Duke, Singler is a veritable hair plug on top of Dick Vitale’s cue-ball, especially considering most of the heart and soul of the Blue Devils’ championship run, Scheyer, Zoubek, ...

Cameron Newton Emerges As Auburn Starting Quarterback

Posted by Kevin McGrady on April 28 2010 Add Comments
After reviewing endless hours of film on spring practice and discussing the positives of each player, coach Gene Chizik has announced that Cameron Newton is the starting quarterback for Auburn. He also cautioned Newton about letting up when he encouraged the other Auburn quarterbacks to work hard and push him. It is a healthy spirit of competition, which should make the entire team better. Cameron Newton is a 6’6”, 247 lbs quarterback and already has two national championship ...

Arizona or Washington? Rival Storylines Define The USC Can’t-Miss Game

Posted by Reid Brooks on April 28 2010 Add Comments
There were two under-the-radar teams that accounted for half of USC's losses last season. This year, under the guidance of Lane Kiffin, the Trojans should be out for the blood of both schools. However, when defining a "can't miss" game of 2010, the storyline of former partners and all-star quarterbacks makes USC-Washington a really tough candidate to beat. And to make it even better for Trojan die-hards, there will be a chance to watch it at home-sweet-home. Oct. ...

USC’s Lane Kiffin Starts His Era off with a Different Kind of Schedule

Posted by Rick McMahan on April 28 2010 Add Comments
Unlike recent years when Pete Carroll was at the helm of Trojan football, Lane Kiffin will not have the luxury of two byes in the 2010 football schedule. Typically, one of the two byes that Carroll would use to game-plan and heal up injured players would occur in the month of September when Carroll was still trying to determine his team's identity. The closest Lane Kiffin will get to that is the week following the Trojans' opener ...
