Breaking Down Big East Football Position-by-Position: Running Back

Posted by Alex Callos on April 30 2010 Add Comments
In 2009, the Big East had as much young talent at the running back position as almost any conference in the nation. Going into the 2010 season, nearly all of that talent is returning, making running back the most talented position in the conference. New faces like Dion Lewis and Jordan Todman burst onto the scene last year to produce huge seasons for their respective teams. Couple that with returning veterans like Noel Devine and Joe Martinek ...

Bryce Sherman: A Fan Favorite at South Carolina

Posted by Alex Roberts on April 30 2010 Add Comments
During South Carolina's 2010 Garnet and Black game, one player showed exactly why he has been given the opportunity to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks, and made a case to be one of the featured backs on this year's team.   It was NOT Marcus Lattimore (who arrives this fall). It was Bryce Sherman.  The Sherminator.  Sherm the Worm, Bryce "Holy Crap One of the Coaches Little Children Stole a Uniform and Ran Onto the Field" Sherman.  All ...

Unga Unguarded: A BYU Cougar Under College Football’s Microscope

Posted by Tyler Springs on April 30 2010 Add Comments
Running has never been a staple of Brigham Young University's football program.  Names like Detmer and McMahon have always defined the Cougar offense.  Sarkisian, Beck, and Hall are among the men who have best worn the "Y" in recent years. Even the Young family itself is in the business of passing, having produced one of the better left-handed quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL.  To put it mildly, BYU passes, and ...

West Virginia’s Special Teams: Mixed Results

Posted by Kyle Wilkerson on April 30 2010 Add Comments
In 2009, West Virginia’s special teams were both a strength and a weakness of the team. The biggest problem was on kickoffs, which will need to be solved for the Mountaineers to win the Big East. West Virginia’s punt coverage was one of the top units in the country, with a net average of 38 yards. However, West Virginia will have to replace punter Scott Kozlowski. Competing for the punting job will be senior Gregg Pugnetti ...

St. John’s Eyeing Recruits Remi Barry and Dwayne Polee Jr.

St. John's is close to pulling off a stunning late recruiting coup.  Remi Barry, a 6'7" swingman from France, is leaning toward St. John's over UCLA, Arizona State, and Colorado. Barry was ruled ineligible for his senior season by the California Interscholastic Federation and remains one of the elite players left unsigned. Dwayne Polee Jr., another 6'7" swingman with freakish leaping ability, also seems to be leaning towards St. John's. Polee was about to announce last week ...

Looking At West Virginia’s Safety Rotation

Posted by Kyle Wilkerson on April 29 2010 Add Comments
In West Virginia’s 3-3-5 defense, the safety position is key, as the defense has three safeties on the field at all times. In 2009, West Virginia rotated five safeties throughout the course of the game, and they returned three of them. The biggest, and most important safety, is free safety Robert Sands. Sands is a junior and had a breakout season, earning first team all-Big East honors. He led the Big East in passes defended (13) and tied ...

Put Up Or Shut Up for the Miami Hurricanes in 2010

Posted by Carlos Pineda on April 29 2010 Add Comments
Since the University of Miami joined the ACC, it has been a team with the potential to compete for the conference crown. Six years later, this is a program that has failed to take over a league that has no clear cut front runner, other than Virginia Tech. I know that former head coach Larry Coker drove this program to the ground as far as the undertaker would allow him to dig before he was fired. At ...

Scott Drew, Baylor Bears Have No. 17 Signing Class Entering Next Season

Posted by Denton Ramsey on April 29 2010 Add Comments
With a National Letter of Intent being signed by point guard Stargell Love, Baylor head coach Scott Drew recently completed a three-player signing that is ranked No. 17 in the nation by ESPN. In addition to the signing of Love (Winston-Salem, North Carolina), Drew has also received commitments from forward Perry Jones (Duncanville, Texas) and guard Bakari Turner (Plano, Texas). Drew’s Bears, who made a remarkable run to the Elite Eight before succumbing to the eventual-Champion Duke ...

No Time To Rest for the Villanova Wildcats

If the taste of defeat is bitter, then the Villanova basketball program features more puckered lips than a 15-year old girl’s Facebook album. Not only did the Wildcats lose, but they lost big and early. With their star point guard and offensive focal point, Scottie Reynolds, leaving the program, the little man has left some very big shoes to fill. Villanova backed into the end of the 2010 regular season by losing five of their last seven games ...
