In what was another rocky road performance, the Kentucky Wildcats pulled out another road thriller against SEC opponent Vanderbilt 58-56.   The Commodores considered the SEC’s second-best team overall and at home, played like it Saturday night in front of a hostile home crowd taking it down to a last second missed shot by Commodore A.J Ogilvy.   Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari knew it wasn’t going to be easy coming into this game.   Vanderbilt had many things going for ...

Naw...its never too early to ponder the possiblities for who may wear the cardinal and gold in the not too distant future for true Trojans fans. Kentucky Edges Cold-Shooting Vanderbilt 58-56

Vanderbilt decided to shoot three's like a middle school girls team. That decided the ballgame. If they hit anything, they win going away. How bad did it get? The Commodores shot a collective 2-for-20 from behind the arc. Let's take a look at the breakdown by shooter: Jermaine Beal - 0-5 Brad Tinsley - 0-4 John Jenkins - 1-6 Steve Tchiengang - 1-2 Lance Goulbourne - 0-2 Andre Walker - 0-1 (desperation attempt at end of shot clock) Wow. If I showed ...

Paul Hewitt’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Continue to Underachieve on the Road

Earlier today, Georgia Tech suffered a devastating 76-74 loss Saturday to the Maryland Terrapins. The Terp's Cliff Tucker hit a clutch three-pointer at the buzzer to seal the win. Good for Maryland and their coach Gary Williams, as they are just about assured of going to the Big Dance. Georgia Tech, on other hand, just can't get over the hump. At 18-9, 6-7 in the ACC, the Jackets are the epitome of a bubble team. ACC ...

Posted by Matt Peloquin on February 20 2010 Add Comments
Big Ten Conference officials have hired a research firm to assist in targeting expansion candidates. Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez says the number on the list is approximately 15 and that Texas is not included as a recommendation. That's good news for admins and fans of schools hoping to be in the mix, as Texas would seem like tough competition for that 12th spot in the Big Ten. However, Alvarez also states that "I think it could ...

Has BYU’s Tyler Haws’ Slump Cost Him Mountain West Freshman of the Year?

Posted by David Mortimer on February 20 2010 Add Comments
If the Mountain West Conference's postseason awards had been voted on one month ago, chances are BYU's Tyler Haws would have been named MWC Freshman of the Year. After BYU's 81-66 win over Wyoming on Jan. 20, in which he scored a season-high 24 points, Haws was averaging 12 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 52.6 percent from the field. Haws had played at least 19 minutes in each of BYU's 20 games, scoring in ...

Big Weekend in Big Ten Will Answer Some Interesting Questions

Posted by Nick Mordowanec on February 20 2010 Add Comments
As the Big Ten campaign is swiftly approaching the checkered flag, there are still many questions which have yet to be answered.   One question revolves around who is truly the best team in the conference.   Purdue is the highest-ranked team nationally within the conference, and has beaten Ohio State and Michigan State on the road—and pretty handily at that. The Boilermakers have an eclectic trio of players in Robbie Hummel, E’Twaun Moore, and JaJuan Johnson. They ...

Big 12 North Gun-slinger Bo Pelini

"Where have all the cowboys gone?" is a common phrase these days. People are looking for a tough, hard-nosed leader not just in sports, but in a world where everybody just cruises and doesn't take pride in their work. That is, except the "Leader" of the Blackshirts. Bo Pelini, when you think about it, is everything that's right about college football. He takes pride in and respects the game and abuses the refs occasionally about a ...
