Ohio State Shocks Michigan State, Shakes Up Big Ten Standings

Posted by Drew Gatewood on February 21 2010 Add Comments
Ohio State (21-7) did what few experts picked them to do going into this game, win. The Buckeyes have not fared well in East Lansing historically, but today was different. Coach Matta used only six players during the 74-67 win over Michigan State (21-7), and that was only because Dallas Lauderdale got into foul trouble. Lauderdale finished with eight points and eight rebounds, even with his replacement Kyle Madsen fouling out. Helping to increase the odds in ...

West Virginia in the Final Four? I Think Not

Posted by Adam Lufrano on February 21 2010 Add Comments
Da'Sean Butler is a great player. He is the undisputed leader of this West Virgina team, and he has filled that role to perfection. He has average just under 18 points per game, over six rebounds a game, and over three assists. He has also been very clutch for the Mountaineers, making many game-winning shots this season. But is Da'Sean Butler good enough to lead West Virginia to the Final Four? I don't think so. You usually need certain ...

John Feinstein: “Last Amateurs” Author Calls Lehigh-Lafayette Hoops Game

Posted by Mike Casella on February 21 2010 Add Comments
Years after writing The Last Amateurs, about a season on the brink in the Patriot League, author John Feinstein's place as one of the country's preeminent sports writers has already been firmly established. Even so, he couldn't have been aware of the conversation I had the other night with a friend about that same book. That same friend who, on his way to Gainesville, Florida to watch the Gators take on South Florida in baseball, would send ...

Will North Carolina State’s Russell Wilson Choose Baseball over Football?

Posted by Allen Lopp on February 21 2010 Add Comments
Russell Wilson has became a star at NC State mainly on the football field, but he has shown flashes of excellence on the baseball diamond. Wilson is the heart and soul of the football team and as a red-shirt freshman he was a first team All-ACC quarterback. He holds the record of most consecutive passes without an interception at 379 pass attempts.  Despite his team's failures, he has still put up fanatic numbers in two years of football. In his career, ...

Northwestern Basketball: When Playing Hard Just Isn’t Good Enough

Posted by Aaron Morse on February 21 2010 Add Comments
The Northwestern men's basketball team clearly has the talent to compete with anyone in the Big Ten. Next year, with the additions of Kevin Coble back from injury and Rivals.com four-star recruit Jershon Cobb, they'll have top tier Big Ten talent. But they still might not make the NCAA Tournament. This team lacks any player who consistently wants the ball with the game on the line. I want to preface this argument by saying that I am ...

Gary Parrish: An Interview for Writers and Fans Alike

Posted by Garrett Tucker on February 21 2010 Add Comments
A couple of weeks ago, I requested an interview from CBS's College Basketball Columnist, Gary Parrish, and he gladly approved. My website and I strung together some questions from a college basketball standpoint and a writer's standpoint as well. With that being said, I thought it would be very appropriate to post it on here. Enjoy our interview!   Ya Sports!:  When did you decide you wanted to cover college basketball? Did anyone influence you? What major career ...

Reports out of Lubbock, Texas, indicate that Texas Tech former head football coach Mike Leach is moving. For years in the Twin Cities, KFAN has billed itself as "your sports leader."  We'll see if that holds true now that there's a little competition. KSTP (AM 1500) has long been a player in the Twin Cities market, focusing mainly on general talk radio.  Staring on Feb. 15, the station went to an all-sports format. It's obvious that their intention is take to on KFAN, we shall see if the new guys have what it ...
