Brian Zoubek Breaking Out as Duke Finds Separation in ACC

Posted by Justin McTeer on February 21 2010 Add Comments
With their recent win against Virginia Tech, the Duke Blue Devils have finally started to distance themselves from the rest of the ACC. How exactly have they done it? Duke's highly productive trio of Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler, and Nolan Smith have certainly carried the Blue Devils' offense. Against the Hokies, Duke's big three scored 63 of the Blue Devils' 67 points. But Duke's current six-game winning streak hasn't come solely on the backs of their big three. The ...

Bubble Watch Week in Review: Big East Revival?

Posted by T.R. Peterson on February 21 2010 Add Comments
With BracketBusters somewhat anticlimactic as far the bubble teams go, it was the teams from the Big East conferences that provided the past weeks excitement.    Connecticut started the week off with a thundering upset of Villanova, giving us a glimpse of the potential they have.    On Wednesday, Louisville survived a grueling double-overtime game against Notre Dame while also showing signs that they may be ready for March to begin.   Finally, on Sunday, Marquette slipped by Cincinnati in overtime, ...

ACC Basketball Rankings February 22 To March 1: Maryland Survives Busy Week

Posted by Jeffrey Fann on February 21 2010 Add Comments
The Maryland Terrapins played three games in six days and came through with flying colors. They won all three, including an incredible buzzer beating win over Georgia Tech. For the first time this year, the conference appears to really have settled on which teams will make the NCAAs and which won't. I think the top six teams in the standings are in good shape if NCAA selections were made today. The bottom five teams have ...

Duke Blue Devils-Virginia Tech Hokies Game Recap:Why Seth Greenberg Needed a “T”

During the halftime interview with the sideline reporter, Virgina Tech head coach, Seth Greenberg, took this subtle dig at the officiating: “Well, we need to do a better job avoiding fouls. Malcolm Delaney seemed like he picked up two fouls in warm-ups”. Ha. Ha. Watching the game it was tough to argue that the Devils didn’t get a little bit of home-cooking. When you come into Cameron Indoor you know it’s going to be ...

Can Alabama’s Greg McElroy Be College Football’s First Undefeated Quarterback?

Posted by Larry Burton on February 21 2010 Add Comments
Larry Burton (Panama City Beach, FL) Remember last season about this time when people were saying that Alabama might be a good team, but with a new quarterback they could only go so far. I guess they were right, he could only take them as far as winning the BCS Championship and going undefeated. Alabama wasn't eligible to play in the Super Bowl. Now, Greg McElroy is poised to do something no other college quarterback has ...

Washington Huskies: 10 Steps for the Dawgs To Win the Pac-10

Posted by Jason Herres on February 21 2010 Add Comments
1.       Survive their out of conference start The Huskies start off against last year’s No. 10 ranked BYU team in Provo.  How the pass defense (and overall defense) has improved from their Pac-10 eighth rank last year will be clear from the first offensive series against the Cougars.   Following that will be Syracuse, and closing out September with a tough Nebraska team who nearly beat No. 2 Texas last year.   2.       Avoid the Sophomore Slump The Huskies exceeded their ...

ASU Loss Essentially Ends Arizona Wildcats’ NCAA Tournament Streak

Posted by Tom Phillips on February 21 2010 Add Comments
After Arizona's win over ASU in January, many fans (myself included) thought that this would be the game that the Wildcats needed to push them forward.  This would be the game where it clicked for this young squad and they would string together a run to make it to their 26th straight NCAA tournament. For a week that was true.  Arizona went on to sweep the Northern California schools at home and push them into sole ...

ACC Power Rankings: Top 12 Running Backs of 2010

Posted by Ben Gibson on February 21 2010 Add Comments
C.J. Spiller was the headliner of the ACC last season. While he ultimately lost out on a conference trophy and a chance to be a Heisman finalist, there are plenty of strong running backs this season who look to take up where Spiller left off. While other conferences criticize the ACC, no one can deny that they have some of the most explosive running games in the country. The size, the depth and the ...

USF Bulls Bubble Bursts with Loss To St. Johns, NIT Seems Likely

Posted by Drew Gatewood on February 21 2010 Add Comments
The South Florida Bulls (16-10) has had a banner year for its standards.  But now it appears the Bulls are NIT bound after their loss to St. Johns, 74-58.  This loss is not only one of the worst losses of the season, but it’s also at home in front of the 5,800 disappointed fans. The Bulls had overcome transfers, injuries, suspensions, and even an NCAA probe this season.  Despite all the distractions, they’ve post wins over ...
