Virginia Tech, led by its leading scorer, Malcolm Delaney, has been quite the pleasant surprise in the ACC this season. At 21-5 overall and 8-4 in the ACC, the Hokies currently sit just outside the Top 25 and are focused on a trip to the NCAA Tournament. With that being said, Virginia Tech fans know there is very good chance that just might be the case. As of right now, ESPN’s bracketologist, Joe Lunardi, has Virginia Tech ...

Why Duke Can’t Win Championships Anymore

Posted by Joshua Parcell on February 23 2010 Add Comments
It’s the same story every year. Mike Krzyzewski does a “phenomenal coaching job” with “less athletic” but “intelligent, fundamentally sound” basketball players. Duke runs through the ACC schedule with between 11 and 13 wins, sometimes more, and come March the country seems to think the Devils are ready for a run at national title. In the past eight seasons, the Devils have gone a combined 94-29 in ACC games. What do they have to show for it? ...

The NCAA has ruled the University of Michigan Football team was not in "compliance" with rules governing the amount of practice time players are allowed to partake in, and the monitoring of certain practices by UM coaches. There were "no surprises" issued by the NCAA, according to Michigan Athletic Director David Brandon, who also expressed full support for Head Coach Rich Rodriguez.  Brandon reassured fans that even though Rodriguez is 8-16 in his first two seasons, ...

Posted by Robert Givens on February 23 2010 Add Comments
(Once again, day late. My apologies. Work on examiner.com, realsportsnet.com and, oh ya school prevented publishing last night. Is it spring break yet?) With a dominating week, KU positioned itself to clinch its 10th Big 12 Regular Season title with a win tonight versus Oklahoma. The rest of the conference featured streaky play once again from Baylor, Oklahoma State continuing their NCAA tournament run, and Iowa State being more annoying than that kid in class who talks ...

Conference Realignment Scenarios: The Big East/Mountain West Hybrid

Posted by Matt Peloquin on February 23 2010 Add Comments
This article originally appeared on CollegeSportsInfo.com There's been an idea floated around on the message boards and on the ESPN blogs about a Big East/Mountain West hybrid conference. The idea seems like a real stretch at first glance. You'd have seven to eight schools in the northeast and seven to eight schools in the west. Travel would seem like a mess. But the more you look at it, the more it seems like something that could work. If the ...

ESPN has dubbed this "Judgment Week," as teams on the bubble beat each other up to attempt to lock up the final at-large berths in the NCAA Tournament. For teams like BYU, who have already sewn up such a spot, what is left to be judged besides seeding? Postseason awards, that's what. As the season nears completion, BYU's Jimmer Fredette is in the driver's seat to claim the award bestowed upon him in the preseason: Mountain West Conference ...

NCAA Allegations: The University of Michigan Will Be Okay!

Posted by Mitch Meyle on February 23 2010 Add Comments
Reading some of the live reports of what was said during the press conference today, it appears U of M may have done what every university does at some point—not 'exactly' follow the rules.  This is not the big story the Free Press initially wrote up, but something tells me they'll find a way to make today's press conference into (again) something it is not.  What it is (if you take the time to look ...
