Tennessee Basketball: Are the Vols Getting Closer To NCAA Bubble Status?

Posted by Joel Barker on February 24 2010 Add Comments
So much for heading into the conference tournament on a big, momentum seizing, win-streak. After beating Georgia and South Carolina it seemed, at least temporarily, as though the Vols were beginning to right the Big Orange ship. Not so after getting pummeled at Florida. Well, getting pummeled at Florida wasn't the problem so much as getting pummeled by USC, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Florida on the road. These Vols clearly have issues shooting the ball, and playing disciplined, physical basketball. How many ...

NCAA Football: The King Has No Clothes

Is the king immune to his subjects? Are the subjects subservient to the king's will? Most likely, the king is distracted by counsel that he believes is destined by God's will to do his bidding, and the subjects are to blindly trust the king, that he does what is best for the kingdom and no questions or rebellion should ever enter the minds of the subjects that allow them doubt in their majesty. This is pretty much the ...

Guilty Until Proven Innocent: The New American Standard of Judgment

Say what you want about our legal system, but it at least makes sense. If a charge is brought upon someone, the burden of proof is on the accuser, not the defendant. I don't know about all of you, but I for one tend to look at things like this. Which is why I find the NCAA to be so frustrating. The NCAA is not like the legal system, actually they work in exactly the opposite ...

It is over! The two straight years of NIT bids? Done. Florida is going dancing. I know, I know, there are still three games left. And then there is a little matter of the SEC Tournament. No matter. The Gators are in. Like Mick Hubert no doubtedly said many times after Erving Walker launched a three-point shot, "Book it!" Florida has 20 wins (so far) in which it beat Michigan State, Florida State, Mississippi State, Ole ...

Between last year’s Eaglebank Bowl victory and the stellar incoming recruiting class of 2010, head coach Rick Neuheisel has performed a commendable job since the end of the Bruins’ regular season. As Neuheisel can only do so much for UCLA football without putting on pads and a helmet, the onus for success in the upcoming season falls on key offensive and defensive players for a variety of reasons. Herb Magee: 903 Reasons Why Shooting Wins

Posted by Will Holt on February 23 2010 Add Comments
The most important thing in basketball is not defense, passing, or dribbling. It’s shooting. Don’t take my word for it. Take the word of the winningest coach in NCAA men’s basketball history regardless of division and not including NAIA wins. Before you rack your brain trying to think about the man who believes in the importance of shooting while also piling up 903 career wins, let me give you a hint: He is not Bob Knight, Dean Smith, Adolph ...

Change is needed in Chapel Hill. The season that fans believe can't get worse, just keeps getting worse and worse. The legendary program of North Carolina is 14-13 this season and 3-9 in the ACC. At this point in time, the Tar Heels are shockingly at the bottom of the barrel.  There have been many fingers pointed in many directions. Many aspects of this year's team have been scrutinized: leadership, poise, toughness, passion, perimeter shooting and ...

St. Joseph’s Hawks’ Basketball: What We Have and Don’t Have for 2010-2011

Posted by Colin Krouse on February 23 2010 Add Comments
It's been a disappointing year, but it's also been exciting. We've had some rough spots, but some hopeful ones along the way. We saw this in the Temple vs. Saint Joseph's game at the Palestra on Sat. Feb. 20, when the Owls defeated the Hawks in OT, 75-67.   The Negatives I've always been a "bad news first" type of guy, so let's start with the bad. 1) We let it get away from us too much.  It seems like every ...
