Rakim Sanders, Boston College Hand Virginia Tech a Second Straight Loss

Posted by Paul Seaver on February 25 2010 Add Comments
Rakim Sanders has not had the stellar junior year that was expected of him from many Eagles fans. But the love is certainly still there. An ankle injury plagued the first few weeks of the season for Sanders, and it was tough for No. 15 to find any rhythm in an up-and-down season for BC. On Wednesday night, Virginia Tech (21-6, 8-5) came into Chestnut Hill off a loss on Sunday to Duke with hopes of avoiding ...

SEC Basketball: A Rundown of the Postseason Awards

Posted by Corey Taylor on February 25 2010 Add Comments
This season has been looked at as somewhat of a down year for the SEC. It has been full of some teams being a complete disappointment, while others are finishing exactly where they are supposed to be. John Calipari has been as successful as predicted in making his move to Lexington, and Kevin Stallings of Vanderbilt and Bruce Pearl of Tennessee have done great things with their programs, seeing as how Pearl kicked one ...

Time to Step Up: Purdue Basketball Without the Saint

With seven minutes and 11 seconds left in the first half, as Robbie Hummel made a cut through the lane driving towards the hoop, every Boilermaker fan's biggest fear came to a stunning reality: he fell and was helped off the court.   Throughout the last few hours, this author has been bombarded with text messages, Facebook messages, and an onslaught of depressing status updates. I am ashamed to say that a lot of people are giving up ...

Urban Meyer: Florida’s “Evil Genuis” Rooted In Princeton’s Single Wing

Don't hate Urban Meyer. It's really not all his fault. He never wanted to be a saint. Pulling a dusty old book from my shelf, I noticed a hand-written note inside from its author. "To Johnny, May you, as a former 'Tiger,' continue to enjoy those pleasant Saturday afternoons at Palmer Stadium. Warm regards, Charlie Caldwell" Dated November 26, 1951, the note was penned by the former Princeton Head Football Coach and member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Charles ...

A Year in Crime: College Football’s All-Dismissed Team

Posted by Johnny Lawrence on February 25 2010 Add Comments
Most college football players forge through four or five years, avoiding the heavy hand of the law. Well-behaved and well-connected, they take full advantage of the opportunity only a small fraction of society secures. Unfortunately, dozens of gridiron amateurs lose focus and headline newspapers for negative reasons. The advent of social networking sites, like Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter, have forced these men to curb inappropriate public behavior or risk their missteps being published online. But, unbelievably, some ...

Stanley Robinson, We Need You!

Posted by Tom Smith on February 25 2010 Add Comments
Stanley Robinson is the most talented player on the UConn Huskies basketball team.   Problem is, he doesn't yet seem to believe it. Coach Calhoun and the rest of the coaching staff keep trying to convince him of this fact, but it hasn't stuck.   Time is running out. There are only three regular season games left for Stanley to realize exactly how good he is.   Calhoun has actually had this problem a few times before.   He had to plead ...

Mosi Tatupu Helped John Robinson Modernize Trojan Football

Posted by Bill Hare on February 25 2010 Add Comments
Anyone who saw Mosi Tatupu play could not help but admire his effort plus style. Tatupu, who died at 54, will be sorely missed. He was a player’s player and coach’s player who did all that was asked of him and then some. When Tatupu arrived on the USC campus in 1974 his sturdiness marked him as an immediate comer at fullback, someone to throw sturdy blocks and clear the way for those great John McKay tailbacks ...
