Robbie Hummel’s Injury: Purdue’s Loss Isn’t Necessarily Duke’s Gain
As a Duke fan I was not happy to hear the news that one of Purdue's best players, Robbie Hummel, was hurt.
I certainly wasn't glad to hear he was lost for the season with an ACL tear.
Apparently, however, there are some who feel it is a good thing for Duke that Hummel is out of Purdue's lineup. This may mean that Duke could leap frog the Boilermakers for a top seed in the NCAA tournament.
That thought is without question ...
Medal Count for 2010 Olympics: USA Extends Its Lead
With a strong effort on Thursday, the United States regained some breathing room in the medal count with the Games heading into its final weekend. Four medals by the U.S. puts them on the verge of tying the all-time Winter Olympics record for medals won by a nation. The U.S. once again tied for the most gold medals in Vancouver, as well as took the lead in silver and bronze.
With three ...
College Basketball Winners and Losers from Thursday Night (Feb. 25)
On a night where Kentucky convincingly got their revenge on South Carolina, other teams were in action as well.
Who made the best of Thursday night? Who missed a late season opportunity?
Winners
Kentucky (27-1, 12-1)
Devan Downey had 26 points, but it was all about the Wildcats at Rupp last night. An 82-61 victory over the Gamecocks helped avenge their only loss of the season.
Northwestern (18-10, 7-9)
It was a night to remember for Northwestern. Their 74-57 victory ...
Ranking the Washington Huskies’ Five Toughest Games of 2010
Year one of the Steve Sarkisian era took Husky fans through a gauntlet of emotions. From the upset of then number three USC, to a six straight loss to the rival Ducks. For a program that has not experienced post-season play since Rick Neuheisel roamed the sidelines, 2009 was a step in the right direction.
It was also a difficult reminder of just how much is involved in changing the culture of a program. All signs ...
Iowa Hawkeye Basketball One Loss from Worst Record in School History
It's been argued that taking a break from your passion from time to time is a good thing.
A break can help bring new clarity, new enthusiasm, new hope. It can refresh the mind and re-energize the body.
Well, that's the theory anyway.
The nine-day break wasn't a good thing for the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team. Rather than provide some much-needed rest for the young players, it appeared the break allowed the dust to collect and the ...
Syracuse Vs. Villanova: Finally Upon Us
I don't need to remind anybody how big the Villanova game is going to be. College Gameday, anticipation for nearly three months and a sold out Dome all come to mind.
This list goes on and on for 'Cuse basketball fans, and now the day we have all been waiting for is finally almost here.
I'm sure I'm not speaking just for myself when I say how freaking excited I am going to be waking up on ...
The Top Five SEC Offensive Players to Watch in 2010
Here's a list of Top SEC targets to watch in the year 2010. I'm not saying they're necessarily the BEST players (although some of them are), but the most interesting to keep an eye on this coming year. The list is not in order of talent or accomplishment. I could have considered players more talented than the ones listed, but I believe these five will be the most interesting and entertaining to watch in 2010.

NCAA Bubble Talk: 10 Lingering Questions
I covered the muddled Big East bubble picture earlier this week. Now let's move on to the national picture and try to answer some of college basketball's biggest bubble questions as we move into the month of March. (All RPI data courtesy of WarrenNolan.com) 1. Is the Atlantic 10 eating itself alive? Yes it is.
Not long ago, the Atlantic 10 was ...
Why Nick Saban is Already a Legend, and Why He Won’t Go Pro
Early in his coaching career, Nick Saban began to make impressions. Impressions that have defined him as one of the most prestigious coaches in NCAA football.
Sticking with NCAA head coaching jobs:
1990: Pushes Toledo to a 9-2 season as a first year head coach.
1995-1999: Restores hope to Michigan State by amassing a 34-24-1 record.
2000-2004: Posts an outstanding 48-16 record at LSU, with a BCS National Championship in just his third year.
2007-2009: Wins another BCS title after ...
Texas Basketball: Longhorns Defend Home Court vs. OSU Cowboys
A funny thing happened on the way to burying the 2010 Texas Longhorns. Defense. For all the handwringing and consternation bandied about on this and other sites about the Longhorn’s anemic offense, defense carried the day…err…night.
The ability to defend a four guard, spread the floor offense was the difference in winning and losing. Not personnel packages, five out looks, or iso’s and two man games. The difference was straight up, guard your ass, man to ...
