Mike Leach and Mark Mangino are Victims of Progress

When accusations like those emanating from Lawrence and Lubbock begin to hit newsstands, the "Grumpy Old Men " invariably come out of the woodwork. You know the type. They walked 10 miles uphill in the snow to school. They ate sawdust soup because it was all they had. Their parents beat them silly for putting their elbows on the table. (And they liked it!) But when it comes to sports, they love to remind everyone how godawful ...

Georgia Bulldogs’ Defense Hanging in the Balance Due To Draft Pull

While the Georgia Bulldogs allowed 471 yards to Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl, their defense gave an inspiring effort that actually left me somewhat comforted. Without every defensive coach from the regular season except for ends coach Rodney Gardner, the Bulldogs were able to hold Texas A&M's high powered offense to 13 points until late into the fourth quarter. They did so by creating turnovers and making big plays on special teams, along with controlling the ...

Sugar Falling From the Sky: Larry Munson and the Sugar Bowl

On the eve of the New Year, and more importantly, the Sugar Bowl, I dug up one of my favorite audio clips. Ever since I can remember, I've always loved listening to sports on the radio. Give me a great radio broadcaster and I can listen to them call a paint drying contest. Pre-BCS, the Sugar Bowl was the Battle of Gettysburg game for all SEC football fans. Growing up a fan of the Florida Gators, this ...

Will Adam James’ Video Mute Mike Leach’s Cries of Defamation?

Mike Leach issued a statement Wednesday evening after being relieved of his duties as the head football coach at Texas Tech, lambasting the university and accusing the administration of adhering to lies regarding his alleged mishandling of a player. “Over the past several months, there have been individuals in the Texas Tech administration, Board of Regents and booster groups who have dealt in lies and continue to do so,” said Leach. “These lies have led to ...

Mike Leach and Mark Mangino: Could They Coach Together?

To start off, I would like to say "no". The chances of something like this happening are right up there with none.  First of all, I'm hearing around that former Kansas head football coach Mark Mangino is probably ready to retire. Second of all, it would cost any college a fortune to have two such men on a single coaching staff. However, just the thought of Mike Leach and Mangino coaching from the same sidelines is beyond ...

Final Countdown To Pasadena: Saban Pleased With Practices.

The University of Alabama football team has one more practice before the break for New Year's. The players will regroup on Friday and travel to Pasadena as a team, boarding the university's corporate jet for the journey. The team had four practices this week. The first practice, as Saban put it, allowed them to "get the Christmas hangover out of them" and refocus on the goals for this game. As a result, the Alabama team had ...

Virginia Tech Hokies Looks To Knock Off The Tennessee Volunteers In Atlanta

Virginia Tech will be making their 17th consecutive bowl appearance tonight against the University of Tennessee in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Atlanta has not been kind to the Hokies so far this season. In case you've forgotten, the Hokies lost to Alabama in the Georgia Dome on Sept. 5. They then lost to Georgia Tech, who happens to play down the street, in October. And the last time Tech played in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in 2006, they ...
