Posted by Tim Croley on October 30 2009 Add Comments
As the season enters week nine the pressure mounts with each passing moment.   My overall record is now 45-11 going into week eight.   Week Eight Recap:   Week eight saw Houston Nutt and Ole Miss get reacquainted with his former team, Arkansas . The Hogs are wishing he was a bit friendlier. In my lone loss of the week, the Rebels won 30-17, while I had the Hogs by the final of 27-24.   The Wildcats of Kentucky had ...

Florida Gators: For Urban Meyer and Tim Tebow Corner Coverage Is Kryptonite

Posted by Trey Jones on October 30 2009 Add Comments
Sure, Urban Meyer’s spread offense with Tim Tebow has outscored every team this year, but the harsh reality is that opposing defenses have figured out how to slow this season's version of the Gator spread.   Review the offensive performance of the Gators over the last three years and you will find one key factor that separates the 2009 squad from the rest…    Opposition cornerbacks are no longer padding the flanks.   In the previous two seasons, Gator wideouts earned ...

Does Penn State Have the No. 3 or No. 7 2010 Football Recruiting Class?

Posted by Lauren Williams on October 30 2009 Add Comments
The college football season is ending almost as quickly as it began. With Feb. 3, NCAA Division I Football Signing Day, on the horizon, universities gear up for official visits and pulling on board their 2010 recruiting classes. For Penn State, having a top recruiting class isn’t something new. Close behind Oklahoma, the Nittany Lions stood in the No. 11 spot in the 2009 class rankings, according to Scout. Top players included five-star offensive tackle Eric Shrive and ...

Three Reasons Why Purdue Quarterbacks Are Undefeated In The NFL

As the calendar turns from October to November this weekend, there are only three undefeated teams remaining in the NFL: the New Orleans Saints, the Denver Broncos, and the Indianapolis Colts.Any guesses what they have in common?(Very good: I was hoping that you'd already read the headline!)The Saints, Broncos, and Colts rosters all feature ex-Purdue quarterbacks, namely Drew Brees, Kyle Orton, and Curtis Painter. Now, while Painter is a rookie third-stringer who has yet to take ...

USC Trojans-Oregon Ducks: Trojans Limp into Autzen Stadium

Posted by Paul Peszko on October 30 2009 Add Comments
The Trojans will definitely try to put their best foot forward on Saturday, but it may be somewhat gimpy. What amounts to the biggest Pac-10 game of the year comes at a time when the Trojans are bruised and banged up. First off, their leading receiver as far as yards per catch, tight end Anthony McCoy, will not even make the trip to Oregon as he stays home nursing a sprained ankle. McCoy is also second on ...

Michigan Wolverines Will Bounce Back from Tough Penn State Loss

Thousands of hopefuls infiltrated the sacred stands of the Big House this past weekend—some in maize, some in white. The traditional Michigan tailgate was back in action after a month-long hiatus of on-the-road contests and a “blow over” matchup that left the usually chaotic State & Hoover intersection virtually vacant. Penn State students and fans are renowned for their group-oriented, massive tailgate scene, but it is safe to say the Michigan fanbase gave the Nittany allegiant a ...

College Football Week Nine Previews and Predictions

Remember Thursday, September 3rd ? That was the night that Oregon lost at Boise State, LeGarrette Blount shocked the sports world and everyone and their Nike swoosh jumped off the Ducks’ bandwagon. So much for a magical season. A season in which the Ducks expected to challenge USC for a Pac-10 title and play in a BCS bowl. Just like that, it all seemed to have come to a crashing halt. Well, what a difference eight weeks makes. Since ...

Georgia Tech Football: Week 9 Bad Advice, Bold Prediction, and Something Else

Posted by Zachary Osterman on October 30 2009 Add Comments
(What makes the spread option so effective? Yoga, that's what.) Two-thirds of the way through their 2009 season, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are sitting prettier than they have in quite some time. First place in the ACC Coastal and within striking distance of the top-10 in the country. Moreover, the spread option has turned doubters into disciples and receivers into believers (score one for cheap poetry), and it's got Tech second in the country in rushing ...
