Penn State Football 2009 Breakdown: Defense
The brightest spot for the Penn State defense is obviously Sean Lee returning. But, will some of the defenses weaknesses like the secondary override the strengths like Sean Lee and Jared Odrick?
Just like on offense, Penn State was also the No. 1 overall defense in the Big Ten with only 12.4 points scored against them a game. They were also No. 1 in yards gained against them in the Big Ten with 263.9. Not to mention No. 2 ...

This summer, the National Football Post is breaking down every team in the Football Bowl Subdivision(formerly known as Division I-A) to identify players who might warrant interest from NFL teams in the 2010 draft.
The Stanford Cardinal returns a talented group of NFL prospects on both sides of the ball and look like a team ready to take the next step in the Pac-10 this year.

Freshman Spotlight: Georgia TE Orson Charles
Orson Charles is out of Plant High in Tampa, Fla., where he was a SuperPrep All-American and was selected to play in the Army All-American game in 2008.
Charles is a 6′3″, 230-pound TE, who chose to play for the Dawgs over schools such as USC, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami, and Florida.
During his senior season at Plant High, Charles was a dominant TE, hauling in 75 passes for 1,440 yards and 21 touchdowns.
He also played as a DE, recording 27 tackles, seven sacks and three fumble ...
Is the SEC in Store for an Early Season Letdown?
With the SEC becoming more adventurous in their non-conference scheduling, September is now full of appetizing early-season showdowns featuring the big boys of college football.
However, with these intriguing matchups comes the possibility of disappointment for fans of the nation’s most passionate conference.
While SEC teams faired only slightly better than .500 last season going 5-4 in non-conference match-ups against BCS schools in September, this year presents more intriguing early challenges that could set the tone one ...
2010 National Champions: Why Not The Hurricanes?
The Miami Hurricanes don't mind people saying this isn't their year.
Brutal four game start? It's OK.
Head coach still learning to win? That's perfectly fine.
You see, the Miami Hurricanes are officially a "next year team," but they may be THE next year team.
I'm not saying that this team isn't going to have success in 2009; an eight win regular season with a quality bowl game seems likely. An ACC title could even be in the cards if things ...
Fall Practice Shows Results of Summer Work for Alabama’s Crimson Tide
I'll be the first to admit that when Nick Saban came to Alabama I thought he would work some magic spell and turn the team from soft to rock hard over night. I didn't really expect them to be a championship caliber team right off the bat, but I did expect them to be bigger and stronger. I, like many, probably expected too much.
What did happen; however, was Nick Saban made them better football ...
Prepare For Glory: Spartan Linebackers Among Nation’s Best
In a conference that contains the legendary "Linebacker U", it's tough for a group of linebackers from a different school to grab the spotlight and shine.
Unfortunately for the rest of the 'Big Ten,' Michigan State has taken a page from Penn State's playbook and created one of the most fearsome linebacking units in the entire country.
Running backs across the conference and country, please try not to soil your pads.
With the addition of junior linebacker Greg ...
Stanford Pulls Aces With Standout Freshman Quarterback
Nothing beats the feeling of sitting at a poker table and seeing that you have been dealt two beautiful bullets.
You are excited yet you don’t want to be too anxious. You want to be unassuming but you can’t let rags lead to riches either.
Landing a five star recruit who is ready to take the field on day one is college football’s version of pocket aces. Everyone wants to get really fired up about them, but ...
Courtney Upshaw Puts the Spotlight on Discipline at Alabama Under Nick Saban
There are reports that Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw was arrested on a third-degree domestic violence/harassment charge in Tuscaloosa County this week. Reports say Upshaw was involved in an argument with a girlfriend that may have become physical. He was arrested, and bond was set at $500.
A witness and father of the female involved had this to say about the incident:
Dave Grzyb called it "a simple lovers' quarrel altercation."
"The cops just happened to be there and see it and ...

This article is brought to you by the SEC Sports Hub Blog. It is a member contributed piece and its opinion does not necessarily reflect that of SEC Sports Hub.
With the entire national media projecting the Florida Gators football team to play for the National Championship during the 2009 football season, it seems almost a foregone conclusion that the Gators will play in the SEC Championship Game.
However, looking at some recent and historical trends there ...
