The 2009 Preseason All-ACC Team

Posted by Jeffrey Fann on August 21 2009 Add Comments
Who are the ACC's top players at their position? I've put together my own pre-season All-ACC team. If I was forming an ACC All-Star team these are the guys I'd want on my squad. OffenseQB Russel Wilson, Sophomore, North Carolina State Wolfpack All-ACC QB as a freshman. He should be even better this year.RB Jonathan Dwyer, Junior, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Dwyer is ACC's reigning offensive player of the year. He'll continue to thrive in Paul Johnson's triple ...

Roderick Smith Shows Ohio State Buckeys His Ability in Week One

Last night, Buckeye running back commit Roderick Smith and Ft. Wayne Harding played cross town rival Wayne. Smith didn't disappoint either, and showed all watchers why he is one of the top running back prospects in the country. He had 26 carries for 271 yards, and scored all four touchdowns for Harding in the game. Those would prove crucial as they squeaked one out, 26-21.  I personally think Smith is the most complete running back the Buckeyes have brought in since ...

Tim Tebow: A Born-Again Bulldog’s Perspective

Posted by Cole on August 21 2009 Add Comments
Growing up as a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, I have learned that there is no greater evil that the Florida Gators. As someone who has only been on this earth 18 years, I can only remember losing game after game at the hands of the hated Gators. The past three years, I have painfully watched Florida win two national and SEC titles. However, one thing that always sticks out to me—whenever I have the misfortune of watching ...

Why the Big Ten Race Depends on Rebuilt Knees

Each of us has at least one three-letter acronym we never want to hear.  Something that immediately brings to mind a terrible fear, past horror, irreversible mistake, or worst nightmare. RIP. WMD. HIV. HGH. MIA. IRS. OSU.  (Sorry, Wolverine fans, couldn't resist.) Football players have a most-feared-acronym as well:  the dreaded three letters A-C-L.According to the most trustworthy source on the Internet—okay, I mean Wikipedia—ACL stands for "anterior cruciate ligament,"  the most ...

Duke Football Fans Have Reason To Be Optimistic For The 2009 Season

Posted by Tyler Lambert on August 21 2009 Add Comments
Duke's football team has been labeled by many fans as the worst collegiate football program in the NCAA. As a Duke fan, it is hard to prove the doubters wrong when there is little to no evidence backing up your belief that the program has had some success over the past decade. Well college football landscape, look out for the Blue Devils in 2009. Behind second year coach David Cutcliffe and All-ACC Second Team QB Thaddeus Lewis, Duke football looks ...

The 85 Man Rule Helped Parity Inside Conferences, But Not Outside Them

Posted by Larry Burton on August 21 2009 Add Comments
Football, like life, has its haves and have nots.  It's a rule as old as time.  Not everyone was meant for greatness. There were times when teams would sign hundreds of players for their rosters, and during those times, there were teams lucky to suit up three dozen. In those days, football was ruled by haves and the have nots, though grudgingly, accepted it as status quo.  For some schools, football was everything, for others, it was ...

Alabama And Auburn Football: Two Incidents, Two Different Responses

Posted by Tiger Histalmos on August 21 2009 Add Comments
The state of Alabama has something to talk about even before the college football season starts. Two players, Courtney Upshaw (LB) from Alabama and Eric Smith (RB) from Auburn, have been arrested for different disturbances.  Upshaw was arrested on Wednesday night for a domestic violence dispute with Lynn Grzyb, his girlfriend, near the student recreation center.  Eric Smith was arrested for disorderly conduct early Friday morning in front of the Lexington Hotel in Auburn. The news ...

Alright gang, with all my stuff moved into the brand new home office in Oakdale, I decided to take a break from my moving in and cleaning up to give the masses what they need, the preseason SEC football rankings. 1. Florida (13-1 in 2008) Defending national champions and all-world quarterback Tim Tebow is set to again rule the college football world. However, seven starters return on offense, but 11 will return on defense, including linebacker ...

Virginia’s Al Groh Doesn’t Mind A Helping Hand

Football is ultimately a team sport. While you certainly would love to have a star or two that teams have to game plan against, it will mean little if the other players on the field cannot get the job done. Winning and losing is a team business. Well that team mentality in college football translates well to the sidelines as well.  Head coaches may be the figure head of the program but their success often depends on ...

Keith Dewitt fails to gain entrance to Mizzou

After months of waiting, it’s finally become official. In a press release that didn’t really surprise anyone who has been following the situation, it was determined that Missouri signee Keith Dewitt’s academic record wasn’t good enough for the NCAA. The six-foot-ten forward, who could have made an immediate impact for the Tigers, was not cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center and will likely be headed to junior college. It seems that Dewitt never got a qualifying test ...
