The Devil Wears Armani: How Kentucky Is Selling Its Soul for Wins

Posted by Daniel Muth on August 22 2009 Add Comments
In art and literature, the Devil is often outwardly portrayed as a hideous beast with horns and goat-legs and flame-red skin. Some renditions of the Devil show him more like Nosferatu, drawn and gaunt, with a twisted face and coal-black eyes. Often the beast wears tattered robes or nothing at all to help portray a lack of civility that somehow departs from the humane. Always, the creature is meant to look frightening. In real-life however, the devil ...

Memphis Vacates Prestige: Calipari, Rose Scandal Generates Eternal Shame

Posted by Jonathan Mathis on August 22 2009 Add Comments
In the NCAA, the multitude of scandals is troubling. It normally results from coaches providing unlawful benefits that manipulate an appealing superstar to develop a relationship with one of the premier programs. It could also, however, result from coaches making illegal phone calls to recruit athletes. Normally, though, it involves coaches tampering with recruits unjustly in some shape or fashion, all to obtain talented prospects. Flirting with athletic stars is one (wrong) thing, but violating academic rules are pehaps even more grievous ...

Nebraska Running Back Quentin Castille Dismissed From The Team

In an unbelievable turn of events in Lincoln, Bo Pelini has dismissed running back Quentin Castille from the team for a violation of team rules. Pelini wouldn't elaborate on the infraction, but stated it was, "a clear violation of team rules." This is truly a big blow to the Cornhuskers' running game and can't be understated. Castille was coming off an outstanding performance in the Gator Bowl and was reportedly in even better shape this spring and ...

After last season's 9-4 season the Jacket's are looking to take the next step. In my ACC Team Preview, I had the Jackets going as good as 11-1, and at worst 7-5. Let's see how the schedule shapes up.1) @Florida State Seminoles, Oct. 10, 2009 The Yellow Jackets had a lot of trouble slowing down the 'Noles offense last year, and that was with three NFL Draft choices on the defensive line. The Jackets gave up nearly ...

Florida Football Position Preview 09: A King’s Feast at Defensive Line

Posted by Alfred Fernandez on August 22 2009 Add Comments
The 2009 Florida Gators defensive line depth chart is one of the most impressive in the nation. The roster is splitting at the seams with talent and experience. Linemen as far down as third string have had starting experience in their careers and the fresh faces taking over are bursting with ability. It is an embarrassment of riches for the UF faithful, and one opposing offenses would rather be distributed to the rest of the NCAA. ...

Missouri Practice Friday Produces Tweet-Worthy Results

Head Coach Gary Pinkel could barely do enough to contain his glee over his team's practice Friday morning. Following the first session of what was the Tigers' final two-a-day, a glowing review of the morning's proceedings was posted by an individual who may or may not be Pinkel on the program's official Twitter page: "We just had our best practice of the year thus far. Leadership on the team provided a great amount of enthusiasm, and made ...

Champs Sports Bowl Speaks Loudly Of Big East’s Problems

Posted by Paul Sievers on August 22 2009 Add Comments
Starting in 2010, the Big East will end their arrangement with the Gator and Sun bowls and begin sending their second best team to the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. This change comes with a lot of mixed feelings for Big East fans.Pros: Orlando is a far more desirable destination than Jacksonville or El Paso. It's easier to get to than either city and very family-friendly. For 20-somethings like myself who are looking to party, Tampa ...

Florida Gators Pro Prospects: 2010 NFL Draft

Posted by Gators First on August 22 2009 Add Comments
Written by Ryan Crutchfield, Gatorsfirst.com Contributor Talk about fiending football... (JB): what do you think about Rainey in the NFL? My buddy and fellow Florida alum JB and I have already gone through so many Gator topics that now we’re thinking about the pro chances of backup running backs. That inspired me to think about the pro prospects of other lesser-hyped players on the 2009 Gators. We’ve already all heard plenty about the NFL futures of Tebow, Spikes, ...

State of the Irish will be a nine-piece miniseries analyzing Notre Dame football from top to bottom, also predicting what's ahead for the team.   Defensive End Starter: No. 89, Kapron Lewis-Moore, Freshman-RS (6'4", 270) Moore did the first part of his job by adding the necessary weight to play at the college level.
