Defense Will Keep Iowa in Close Games, But Ricky Stanzi Will Have to Win Them

Posted by Kevin Trahan on August 29 2009 Add Comments
12 points. That's how far the Iowa Hawkeyes were from being undefeated in 2008. Instead, a possible trip to the BCS turned into a 9-4 season and a trip to the Outback Bowl. And while that's certainly nothing to be ashamed of, the Hawkeyes can't help but think what could have been. The main reason for the shaky play in close games was the quarterback competition between Jake Christensen and Ricky Stanzi. Iowa couldn't settle on a quarterback ...

We all love College Football and we all love the excitement of a big crowd, hot college chicks, and a great tailgate scene...but a lot of people don't venture out of their town too often and are missing the greatness of the college football across the U.S. Whether you are from the south, west, east, or north, college football is fun, exciting, and is an experience like none other. In this slideshow I have put together ...

Season Preview: A Game-by-Game Breakdown Of Michigan’s Schedule

Year two of the Rich Rodriguez era at Michigan is just a week away. This is usually about the time of the year that I break out my "Maximum Meechigan" album to let Bob Ufer's legendary calls of Michigan games of the past fill my mind with visions of "cotton-pickin', maize-and-blue whirling dervishes" dancing in the end zone, as I prepare for yet another season of Michigan football. It was Ufer who penned the poem, ...

The Best Women Are Wearing Black This Week…Thanks to College Football

Posted by Mitch Wilson on August 29 2009 Add Comments
My wife is wearing black today. It isn't like she never or rarely wears black, it's just this week it has more significance; she's become a widow. No, fans of Ohio State, Alabama, Big 12, Notre Dame and the rest of you, I haven't died and gone to hell as you've so politely requested—she's become a football widow. I have to say that my wife accepts this role better than most and has truly taken the time to ...

Mock Game Allows Fans An Inside Look at The 2009 Sun Devil Squad

Posted by Kristian Siuta on August 29 2009 Add Comments
Last night, August 28th, Dennis Erickson and the his 2009 Sun Devils took the field for their last fall scrimmage. Although, this was not your typical scrimmage, Erickson chose to eliminate full contact, and tackling to the ground in this "mock game." Also, the scrimmage was more of a practice session rather than a scrimmage.  Several occasions during fan appreciation day, the Sun Devils picked up huge chunks of yardage on plays, only for the ball to ...

College Football 2009: And They All Fell Down

Who is slated for their comeuppance in 2009?ome really good coaches, actually. And one or two that are perceived to be. I will eschew the legalistic prick picks like Utah (the Utes went 10-3 in 2009, crashing down from their 13-0 record in ‘08!) and give you a few of the teams that will be picnicking on s--t sandwiches and will be qualitatively much worse in 2009.   Cincinnati Like Jim Grobe at Wake Forest, Brian Kelly has ...

Gonzaga under the Radar Heading into 2009-10 Season

The Slipper Still Fits.  Gus Johnson's famous line after the Zags' 1999 victory over Florida in the Sweet 16 no longer represents the small Jesuit University in Spokane, Wash.   Although it lost to eventual champion Uconn in its next game, Gonzaga has remained a household name among all college basketball fans. Mark Few's squad has played into March the last 11 years, and in that time it has won nine WCC crowns. However, critics are projecting a ...

Breaking Down Pitt’s Depth Chart Part III: The Offensive Line

Posted by Paul Sievers on August 29 2009 Add Comments
This year's O-Line reminds me of the the 2008 basketball team. Right now its pretty good despite the lack of depth. As soon as the unit suffers a key injury (just about any injury to any starter would constitute a key injury) the o-line is suddenly very mediocre.Let's work left to right...   Left Tackle1. Jason Pinkston2. Jordan GibbsPinkston is a rock at left tackle with NFL potential. Jordan Gibbs at 6'7", 295 pounds has an intriguing ...
