Ode to Wally Wade Stadium

Posted by Mike Kline on July 31 2009 Add Comments
Of all the grand palaces and arenas in college football, Wallace Wade Stadium may be the one that warms my heart the most. No, this is not a joke. I am writing a tribute to Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium here. For too long has Wally Wade, as it is known by those who love and jest at the old horseshoe, been known for what it doesn't have—namely fans. Wade Stadium, named after former Duke coach Wallace Wade, once had ...

2009 NFP Scouting Series: South Carolina

For the rest of the summer, the National Football Post will break down every team in the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A) to identify players who may warrant interest from teams in the 2010 NFL Draft. The South Carolina Gamecocks have sent their share of talent to the NFL over the past couple of years, and this season looks no different. They’re led by a talented group of underclassmen and have some intriguing prospects at ...

A Look into The Future For Alabama’s Season

“Always in motion is the future.” - Yoda, Jedi Master   There are sites on the Internet that quote the fictional character Yoda from Star Wars as “One Minute Wisdom” Though to me Yoda sounds suspiciously like Kermit the frog, the future is in motion and the predictions are haphazard at best. None the less I will take a stab at 2009.   "More diverse the offense will be."   From observation I think its safe to say Greg ...

ESPN and the Hartford Courant have announced that the Michigan Wolverines and Connecticut Huskies have agreed to a home and home football series beginning in 2010. UConn will make the trip to Michigan Stadium on Sept. 4 of next year and Michigan will travel to Rentschler Field in Hartford in 2013. The Huskies were scheduled to play Northeastern on Sept. 2, 2010 but in light of this announcement, that game will be moved. The 2010 game will ...

Michigan Football Friday Recruiting Update

Four-star linebacker Aramide Olaniyan who committed to Duke is planning a visit to Ann Arbor. Note: committed players that continue to take visits are not committed. Per Mgoblog recruiting guru (and their HS head coach): Terry and Terrence Talbot had had an awesome time on their visit to Ann Arbor. "Rich and the boys took great care of them," was an exact quote. State of Michigan DB Dior Mathis has Michigan No. 5 behind a number of ...

SEC Hookups: Top Ten QB/WR Connections Of The Past 20 Years

Posted by Douglas Webb on July 31 2009 Add Comments
Passing combinations are a thing of magic. It seems as though the football stars will align just right once in awhile and in those rare instances a quarterback and receiver on the same team will have magical seasons. It also has allot to do with the type offense you run. The Fun and Gun or the Run and Shoot or pass oriented versions of the spread will of course lead to inflated statistics. I'm going to attempt ...

Let’s Just Say He Was Not Notre Dame’s Whiz Kid

Lordy be! Did you see the headline out of South Bend, Ind? Nah, nothing to do with Hawaii coach Greg McMackin's homosexual slur against Notre Dame. Not even news that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis had no comment about McMackin's reference to a little "dance" before last year's Hawaii Bowl. This news was stunning and hurtful. To wit, in the South Bend Tribune: "Man accidentally shoots leg while urinating in South Bend alley." Truly there are bigger idiots in ...

College Football’s Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea: Teams Can Drown With Change

Have you ever seen Irwin Allen's science-fiction film, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea?  It concerns a futuristic submarine that can go lower in the ocean than any craft in history. In the past 20 years, there are some fans who must feel that they have taken a ride to the bottom of the sea with their favorite team. Not to say there have not been worst jobs by some coaches, or worst seasons by other teams. The truth is there ...
