D-1 Crystal Ball Doesn’t See a Champion

The Florida Gators will not win the national championship in football this year.
Nor will the Texas Longhorns.
Or the USC Trojans.

Or the unbeaten Penn State Nittany Lions. It'll be up to the writers to stop the "Curse of Joe Paterno."

Nor any of the 116 other teams in Division I-A.

Because there's no such thing.

Oklahoma and Florida will tussle in the last non-all-star game of the season, and one will declare itself "national champion," but grumbles from Pennsylvania to the Paloose will underscore, once again, that a playoff is needed.

Not an "NFL-style" playoff, whatever that is, but a college playoff, like what the NCAA does in the divisions that crown an actual champion.
