Washington State (12-4, 2-2) ran into a well-coached, aggressive Arizona State team early Sunday afternoon. The Sun Devils (12-5, 2-2) frustrated and dominated WSU by a final score of 71-46. Coach Ken Bone had trouble getting his team moving before and during the second game on the Arizona road trip. A handful of Cougar players were late for both the team bus and morning meeting. Coach Bone was left with no choice but to shuffle his starting ...

Will Saban’s Great Recruiting Classes Scare off New Recruits?

Posted by Larry Burton on January 9 2010 Add Comments
Some say great recruiting has a price. Eventually, you build such a monster team that newer recruits are scared to sign for fear of never getting to see the field. With Nick Saban working on yet another top-five class following his other two No. 1 classes, is he reaching that point already? This year the nation's top-ranked offensive lineman recruit, D.J. Fluker, sat on the bench and better learned his craft in practice. He would have seen ...

Posted by Bryan Kelly on January 9 2010 Add Comments
The US Army All-American Bowl game was today on NBC, and though the score, as usual, was inconsequential, the commitments made at the game will send shock waves through the college football community. Quite simply, if the Gators can hold on to the class they have now, they will have pulled one of the greatest recruiting coups in all of history. Pennsylvania defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd's "surprise" announcement was for the school in Gainesville, as was ...

Georgia Bulldog Scout Team: Players Earn Respect Monday Through Friday

For Trent Dittmer the plan was simple. After graduating from Cartersville High School in May of 2007, Trent planned to fulfill his lifelong dream of attending the University of Georgia. Trent enjoyed a successful high school football career at Cartersville. Despite being a very accurate and reliable high school kicker, Trent did not have any scholarship offers to play football in college when he graduated. For Trent that was fine. “I knew I wanted to attend ...

Urban's assurance that he's not leaving must have resonated with the top recruiting prospects, as the Gators cleaned house at the Army All America Bowl.  Five star DE Matt Elam, five star DT Sharrif Floyd, and five star DE Ronald Powell, three of the top recruits in the nation, all announced during today's game that they would be heading to Gainesville.  Elam was a Gator prior to the SEC Championship, but uncommitted following Urban Meyer's decision to ...

Pete Carroll to Seattle: For USC Trojans Fans, The 12-Step Post-Pete Program

Posted by Lisa Horne on January 9 2010 Add Comments
The Official Post-Pete Carroll 12 Step Program IF PETE CARROLL DECIDES TO LEAVE. 1. Go into denial. After all, you've been down this road before, haven't you? Remember the interview on the Costa Rica airport tarmac with the Dolphins? Just keep being in denial. 2. Frantically search the Internet to find any stories that say it's not a "done deal" with the Seahawks. Good luck with that. 3. Hang on by a thread. Go to the ...

Looking Ahead to the Alabama Linebackers

Posted by Walter Kirkwood on January 9 2010 Add Comments
It's funny how in an era of spread offense,  and sunny vacation recruiting hot spots like Florida and USC, an Old School program like Alabama beats them all—and they did it the Old Fashioned way.  They run the ball, they stop the run, and they play physical. With that in mind, this is the first of a series of articles in which I will look ahead for Alabama by position. Few positions have seen constant turnover ...

It’ll Be a Worse LA Without Pete Carroll

Before the VFA gets accused of being a "USC homer" (hey—last week it was the Texas and/or the SEC, the week before it was the Big Ten, the week before it was USC—does no one read a profile around here?), we just want to point out that we're not Trojans fans. Having said that, we are fans of Pete Carroll. If Carroll goes back to the NFL (according to the AP the Seahawks are in "discussions" with Carroll, ...
