Tennessee-Virginia Tech: Vols Had Orange Squeezed Right Out of Them by Hokies

Posted by Larry Burton on December 31 2009 Add Comments
Tennessee's team was about as shut down as Lane Kiffin's mouth was shut during the game. For once, a team had no answer to the question of how to stop the Hokies, and Lane Kiffin had no emotion or feisty words to give out. Kiffin's emotions showed a deer-in-the-headlights look every time the cameras showed him on the sideline, and his team literally dropped any chance to make a comeback. For his part, Crompton put passes ...

Who Does Texas Tech Hire After Leach?

Posted by Tobi Writes on December 31 2009 Add Comments
Last fall Mike Leach was the toast of college football, taking the Red Raiders to an 11-1 record.  Only a late season loss to eventual national title game loser Oklahoma, kept Tech out of the national title game. The administration at Tech appeared eager to resign Leach, offering five years at over $12 million.  It wasn't always that way. Reportedly negotiations with Leach opened on a rocky note in the spring. Leach's agent made contact with AD Gerald Myers ...

LUBBOCK, TX—Murphy's Law has been in full effect for the Oklahoma Sooners in Lubbock, Texas. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Bad play, bad blowouts, bad injuries, and questionable calls among many other things.  The Sooners have not won in Lubbock since 2003. They have had no such trouble with any other divisional opponent. The 2009 blowout had the least impact of the three losses. In 2007, Tech knocked out Bradford early, and in turn, knocked ...

Chik-Fil-A Bowl Loss Proves Kiffin Is In Over His Head

Posted by Eddie Becker on December 31 2009 Add Comments
Some new head coaches come in to a job, make positive changes in the football program, and enjoy a rewarding season filled with humility and class and wins.  Lane Kiffin isn't one of those coaches. As soon as Kiffin was hired at the University of Tennessee, he began making splashes taking innocent jabs at rival Florida.  Before long, however, his jabs became more like weekly nuisances, spotlighting UT not so much for the talent of the ...

NORMAN, OK—A coach is defined by winning championships, but one of the easiest ways to determine who is truly great is to look at his coaching tree. History is full of coaches who had strong coaching trees and assistants who left their programs to take over as head coaches elsewhere and have success. Haden Frye, Dan Snyder, and Bud Wilkinson are just a few coaches whose coaching trees are legendary. Stoops was a result of those legendary trees, ...

Chris Petersen and the Boise State Broncos received a special gift on Christmas Day. Just in case the Big East conference didn’t know Lance Stephenson is the real deal, it knows now. The soon-to-be NBA lottery pick lit up the 10th ranked UConn Huskies for 21 points while draining all seven of his free throws, including two in ice cold fashion to clinch the victory with :00.7 left on the clock.   Cincinnati (9-3, 1-0 Big East) was able to hold off a late UConn run to improve to 3-0 ...
